Do people really want a special dot-xxx Internet extension for adult content? Well, according to the 240,000 people that entered a CNN poll, the answer is a very definite “Yes!”
Asked: “Do you think pornographic websites should have their own “.xxx” domain?”, an incredible 83 percent said yes, with just 17 percent saying no.
We have long since pointed out that despite efforts by opponents of dot-xxx to claim there is no support for the top-level domain, every time someone actually polls people, a large majority are in favour. You can see several on our What Others Say webpage, but here is also a quick summary:
Business Week (April 2006): Yes – 63 percent; No – 16 percent; Indifferent – 21 percent
Huntington Herald Dispatch (June 2005): Yes – 65 percent; No – 26 percent; Indifferent – 9 percent
Lombardo Consulting (February 2004): Yes – 65 percent; No – 27 percent; Indifferent – 8 percent
It seems that as dot-xxx gets closer to reality, the more support we have.
